Ubuntu community live!
I recently came across a few sites that show the Ubuntu community in action, live! The first is the Ubuntu Live Stats site. This is an aggregation of many different community sites and is updated in (almost) real time. It shows activity from the Ubuntu forums, wiki, development bugs, security notices and more, and is updated while you watch. It really gives an idea of the living nature of data on the Internet and the activity surrounding Ubuntu. Thanks to Isabelle Duchatelle for bringing the Ubuntu Stats to my attention through the Planet Ubuntu Users blog, and well done to Martin Albisetti and Felipe Lerena for the hard work developing the Ubuntu Live Stats.
The Planet Ubuntu Users blog is another community site which is an aggregation of a number of different Ubuntu users blogs. It’s a great way of seeing what other people using Ubuntu are getting up to, and you can register your own blog as long as it meets their rules.
The final site is the Ubuntu Counter. This is a site to catalogue the number of Ubuntu users, it allows you to register and then record the number of Ubuntu systems you have and their versions. At the time of writing the site is reporting over 22,000 Ubuntu systems, the majority of which (13,650) are running the LTS 6.06 release. Go and register in order to keep their stats up to date.

Welcome
Hello, and welcome to the Using Ubuntu blog. This site will cover tips, tutorials, how to’s, news and links to other sites covering Ubuntu. I’m a recent convert to using the Ubuntu operating system, and along with my friend and colleague Andrew Edney, have written the Using Ubuntu Linux book published by Babani Publishing.
The book is written to provide help and guidance to setup and start using the Ubuntu desktop operating system for people who just want use a computer for the tool it’s meant to be, and don’t want to become a GNU/Linux expert. Luckily when the subject has been inundated with awards for it’s usability, this aim has now become a reality.
I hope you enjoy the site, and please feel free to leave a comment or contact me to let me know what you think.
